How long have you been in your industry?15 years
Why did you choose your industry?I love everything having to do with building, creating, renovating and designing homes. It's not really that I chose the industry, but more like the industry chose me!
Who are your typical clients? Our home furnishings and design showroom welcomes homeowners of all ages looking to elevate the look and feel of their home through the purchase of furniture, flooring, lighting, artwork, wallpaper, and more. Our turnkey project clients are professionals who want a trusted partner to handle all aspects of their renovation, addition, interior design, or custom new build.
What do you like best about being in this industry?I love meeting and getting to know people and the foundation of this industry is relationships. Our clients, partners, contractors, and vendors all play an integral role in the success of a project and our success as a business.
What are common problems you see?Design is challenging because it's very subjective and it's very personal. Helping a client create their dream home is costly and we often have to rely on things that are out of our control... lead times, costs, damaged products, etc. The best way to minimize problems is to consult, advise, and set expectations.
What advice/tips do you have for clients?Find a team that you feel comfortable with and have confidence in. If you're undergoing any type of a turnkey project, you'll need to trust your team which in turn will allow you to trust the process. Don't ever be afraid to be honest with your designer in terms of your likes and dislikes. We want to be able to successfully bring a client's vision to life so that they will love their space for years to come.
When is your busy season? Most people gear up for home improvement in the early part of the year, but honestly, busy times can occur anytime.
What keeps you up at night?Ultimately I want to be sure that our employees and our clients are happy. I want to be sure that I'm providing the tools and opportunities for our team members to do their best work. And of course, I want to ensure we have a full pipeline of lucrative, rewarding, and satisfying projects.
How do you market yourself to grow/expand your business? When I began my business I did quite a bit of networking. I still enjoy it when I have the opportunity, but our workload requires me to be selective. I spend quite a bit of time marketing the business via social media... We're on Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, and we have a blog. I've enjoyed being a guest on podcasts, and TV segments, and I host various events in our Ponte Vedra showroom.
How involved are you in the community?I enjoy supporting Rethreaded as I mentioned. I also enjoy being involved in my own community, Palencia, as a member of their architectural review board. And I enjoy the opportunity to donate blood when I can...
What is your favorite not for profit or charity?I'm a proud supporter of Rethreaded here in Jacksonville. Rethreaded is a organization that provides employment, career development, and supportive services to survivors of human trafficking, so that they can be empowered to reclaim their lives.
What advice would you give to someone thinking of getting into this business?Get an education and gain some experience. A business degree is a great foundation for anyone that wants to own their own business one day. Experience can come in the form of so many fields... retail, design, architecture, manufacturing, real estate, etc. Lastly and most importantly, refine your people skills. It's a people business, so communication, integrity and emotional maturity are key.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?I'm a big exerciser, so you'll find me in the gym every morning and on weekends walking or hiking for hours. I love good books, good movies, and of course, spending time with family.
