How long have you been in your industry?17 years
Why did you choose your industry? The industry found me....as a second-generation contractor we had recently sold a family business (3rd party merchandising for big box retailers). I had a friend needing some help with a new company he was starting. since I didn't have much going on I decided to help him out and ultimately partnered with him and exited that business. that was my entry into the home services industry.
Who are your typical clients?Homeowners.
What do you like best about being in this industry?the ability to help people and constant evolution of things. it's never a dull moment and there are always new challenges on the horizon.
What are common problems you see?Good old customer service is being forgotten, it was easy to do business in the covid years and that has made many people in our industry lazy. The homeowners are carrying that brunt with poor service and a low-quality in-home experience.
What advice/tips do you have for clients?Do your homework and make sure you contractor will be around to service you in the future (most companies fail in the first 5 years of business) We all buy the same stuff from the same people the difference is in what's included and what's cut out. pricing is almost never an apples-to-apples comparison.
When is your busy season?HVAC is busy May-September. Plumbing peaks around the holidays.
What keeps you up at night?how do I get even better than I am today
How do you market yourself to grow/expand your business?pulling away from reliance on Google and digital, focusing back on the community and local efforts. making sure we build enough value with our clients that they are referring us to their neighbors, friends, etc. going back to a more gras routes approach to marketing.
How involved are you in the community?our most notable is our Project X where we give back to Families in need. every quarter we donate a HVAC or Water system to a family that is in need.
What is your favorite not for profit or charity?United States Adaptive recreation Center (USARC.org)
What advice would you give to someone thinking of getting into this business? If I could go back in time I wouldn't change a thing and am glad I did this. don't wait till tomorrow.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?Im an avid off road enthusiuast. and enjoy spending time with the family camping in our RV.
