Morgan:
Welcome back to another episode of Finding Your Frequency, where we highlight those who are making an impact. I’m Morgan Allen, joined today by Frank Sanabria with UNF. How are you doing? I’m doing fantastic. How are you?
Frank:
I am so good. So you are all into the world of transmedia? Yes. Tell us what that is and how you got into it. I started through school. I didn’t really know what it was either until I started to develop my interests through my grad school. And now that I am working full time as an instructional designer, what transmedia means is how to take different avenues of video, audio, text and combine a complete holistic educational experience for the people inside of you.
Morgan:
And while I looked at your portfolio and there’s I mean, of course there’s the digital graphics and big things you create for people to see. Like you did the Boston Marathon. That’s pretty incredible. But then you’ve also done like trans media of the Bible and storytelling of the Bible. And I think directly it’s the transmedia Bible.
Frank:
So not the literal Bible okay. But it is what transmedia is a pitch. It is a complete view for a specific project. So as we’re developing a media project, we create these pitch Bibles that have every single bit of data that we could possibly have. So what it’s going to look like, what its function is, who our shareholders are, our stakeholders, and we put it all together in a cohesive package that we can present to clients, find funding, and basically sell to our clients. This is what we’re going to deliver to you.
Morgan:
Okay. And what does that look like? Is it not a slideshow? What is it?
Frank:
It is an actual book. So it’s got pitches. It’s got one sheet that has the overview of the project. It has all of our digital media assets. So our color palettes and our fonts and typography, everything that goes into building a brand. And I look for what the media experience is going to be.
Morgan:
And that’s super cool. That’s so helpful for these businesses to really make it tangible for their clients or potential business partners to see. So how did you get involved? How did you get into it? What got you excited? What?
Frank:
After graduating from FCG with my digital media undergrad, I was looking for a way to expound and build on that. And I found this program in Indiana at Ball State University that allowed me to take my foundation that I had in digital media and blow it up into something that could be practically used for business and through media and marketing skills.
Morgan:
Okay. What’s your favorite project that you’ve done so far?
Frank:
Definitely. The Wailuku small town, big art project. So we have a small town in Maui called Wailuku that is full of artists, but they wanted to build a sense of space and find stories from the community to inspire future artwork. So sculptures and murals and events that told the story of Wailuku Town. And our job was to go in, collect these stories and find a cohesive methodology for bringing that inspiration to the artists that live in the town.
Morgan:
Oh, that is really cool. And that’s what can be seen online.
Frank:
Yes, it’s still available.
Morgan:
How can you find that online?
Frank:
Just Google search. Small town, big art, small town, big art. It’s really cool.
Morgan:
So have you gotten into the world of NFTs or any of that? Like, is that your realm or do you don’t you don’t touch that.
Frank:
We have, I’ve managed to avoid it. For the most part, it seems that the NFT fad seems to have passed us by for the most part. So I’m glad I didn’t get sucked into it when it was available.
Morgan:
Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Where do you see the future of the industry going as far as digital media?
Frank:
The media will continue to expound. And, as we become more mobile on our devices and we see screens in new and unique places, digital media and its creation and its integration with AI is going to be the biggest thing going forward.
Morgan:
Have you been utilizing AI?
Frank:
I’ve been using AI, in a brainstorming and as a tool capacity never to generate any final product. There is a lot of ethics involved and whether or not that is good. And also, since anything that you generate with a I can’t be copyrighted, it can’t be used for a good client.
Morgan:
Absolutely. So with the future of the industry and as you continue to learn, grow and expand, what are some of your goals?
Frank:
My goals are to stay competitive. So staying abreast and keeping my finger on the pulse of all of the new changes that are coming out, how to make myself marketable in those spaces and maintain employment.
Morgan:
That’s fantastic. So you’re available as a contractor as well for anyone who needs these graphics. Digital media.
Frank:
Yes, absolutely.
Morgan:
Okay, so how could people access you to get your services?
Frank:
The best way is to go through my website, which is a visionary.com. There’s a contact sheet there that can handle all of that.
Morgan:
Okay. Fantastic. Is there any, like, maximum client that you can handle, like.
Frank:
I’m open to all ideas. Let’s get experimental.
Morgan:
Okay. That’s fun because you’re the creative, the creative genius behind everything. So whenever you take a brand, what are some of the first steps that you do with a client to see what they need?
Frank:
Having a conversation with them is the most important thing. Having a personal understanding of what my client’s goals are, where they’re willing to go, and how adventurous and what exists in the space that they exist in would inspire them to create something beautiful and marketable for them.
Morgan:
Yeah, they might not know what all you’re capable of. So I guess just informing them on everything that you can do, what you have done and where you’d like to, where you’d like to play and what those limitations are. Yeah, that’s so cool. It’s a very exciting world as things continue to grow and change and we’re all learning so much so quickly. That’s a really fun industry for you to be in. I like it. Thank you.
