July 17 - Hunt Life Outdoor Show Notes:
For this week's edition of the Hunt Life Outdoors Show, Jeff was out of pocket - had to take care of some business on his hunting property.

So Kevin and Kirk took some time to pine over the joys of hunting in the fall...and watching hunting shows in the cool house right now!  What's your favorite?

The guys returned to food plot talk, and expanded into talk about equipment, including the mighty Bush Hog!

And the storytelling continued with all those times when we've caught ourselves breathing too loud, our muscles were burning too much to keep the bow steady, and our hearts were beating out of our chests when staring a big bad buck in the face!

It was a great time to sit back and daydream about the times to come...and the whitetails we'll see!  It was a great edition of the Hunt Life Outdoors Show.

July 10 - Hunt Life Outdoors Show Notes:
This week's edition of the Hunt Life Outdoors Show found us one man down - Kevin was in a fishing tournament, so he missed out on all the fun!

Jeff and Kirk managed to wipe the sweat off their brows to make it in...they just couldn't believe the heat all over the southeast!  But, hot or not, preparations for bow season are ongoing.  Remember, we're only two months away from lettin' 'em fly!  With that in mind, the boys shared some tips for bowhunting - they talked about releases, tune-up tips, and Jeff recommended some great books that can really improve your bowhunting technique.  Check out the podcast to find out what they are.

Last week, Jeff teased everybody about the results of the Great Food Plot Experiment, and he delivered the goods.  In the past, he's been leary of planting soybean, because it doesn't take a whole lot of deer munching to kill it all.  However, earlier this year, Dr. Grant Woods told him all about Eagle Seed Soybean, and clamed it was "the new magic bean".  Could Eagle have developed the ultimate soybean?  Jeff's answer may surprise you...

Now Jeff and Kirk know that not everybody has hunting land, or they don't have the biggest budget to spend on everything involved in food plot creation and maintenance.  So, Kirk shared some great tips on attracting deer to any area you like to hunt...without causing any problems with land owners or game wardens!

July 3 - Hunt Life Outdoors Show Notes:

It was another great edition of the Hunt Life Outdoors Show, and next week is shaping up to be a great one, too - the guys have been working with Eagle Seed on their food plots, and their no-holds-barred, unbiased reviews are coming up.  Talk to you then!

Finally, all of us here at the Hunt Life Outdoors Show would like to wish you a safe and happy Fourth of July...God Bless America!

June 26 - Hunt Life Outdoors Show Notes:
Kirk was back, so the gang was all here for this week's edition of the Hunt Life Outdoors Show, and they were headed back to the food plots to do some prep work for fall.

One of the big problems they always face is a problem EVERYBODY is facing these days: hogs.  After a little venting about hogs' ability to reduce a thriving food plot to dust in a day or two, the boys got into the good, the bad, and the ugly of hog hunting.  They also got into the good, bad, and ugly of plot maintenance, and Scott checked in from Palatka, FL to share some of his seeding and herbicide tips and tricks.

Alot of the info they were kicking around during the show turned out to be off-shoots of their conversation with Mossy Oak Biologic's Bobby Cole last week.  But interestingly enough, part of this week's show was a quick review of Bobby's first novel, The Dummy Line.  Jeff got his copy in the mail yesterday, and he's already through Chapter 6!  Is it a good read?  Listen in to find out...

Jeff came across an amazing fishing tournament story and shared it with everyone.  What do you get when you combine a purse of almost $1,000,000, an 883-lb. record-breaking marlin, and a red-faced first mate?  The story will make you sick to your stomach!

This week, the guys said this time of the year was pretty much a "dead zone" for hunters...interesting analysis, because this episode of the Hunt Life Outdoors Show was pretty lively!

June 19 - Hunt Life Outdoors show Notes:
This week, the Hunt Life Outdoors Show boys got to spend time with Bobby Cole, Mossy Oak Biologic's Executive Vice President!  Needless to say, they worked him over pretty good, trying to get as much info as possible about food plot maintenance!

Bobby shared a lot of information with everybody about Mossy Oak BioLogic, as well as their magazine, "Farming for Wildlife".  But he didn't stop there - he shared what he's using on his plots right now, ran down the ULTIMATE food plot checklist (get your pad and pencil for this one!), and talked about the need for animal diversity on your plot...and how you plant to get it and keep it.

The conversation moved into what's going on with outdoor television programming, and Bobby shared his perspective on the way things were, and the unfortunate way things are going with ESPN dumping their programming at the end of the year.

Finally, Bobby shared with us his other hobby - writing!  He's the author of a critically-acclaimed novel called "The Dummy Line."  If Bobby's rundown of the story is any indication, it sounds like a real action-packed nail biter...especially to Jeff, who's already ordered himself a copy!

It was another great edition of the Hunt Life Outdoors Show with Mossy Oak BioLogic's Bobby Cole.  If you missed it, be sure to check out the podcast!

June 5 - Hunt Life Outdoors Show Notes:
Is there a down time for hunters?  Not if you've been listening to the Hunt Life Outdoors Show.  Jeff and Kevin kicked around quite a bit of conversation about what to do in preparation for the next hunting season.

Jeff shared some of his recent finds - from the internet.  Jeff loves to talk up news stories that promote hunting, the outdoors, and conservation, and this week, he took us to Idaho and Alaska.  Listen to the show to find out why these states earned kudos from the boys.

Kevin shared part of his Sunday morning ritual...and how it's going to have to change come January.  The guys talked again about ESPN's terrible decision to remove outdoor programming from their lineup.  The discussion then morphed into talking about how hunting isn't just about the kill...it's about the entire experience that can, and is, enjoyed by hunters and non-hunters alike.

The boys shifted gears and talked about gearing for deer season...and that means working the food plots.  But what do you plant?  Recently, Dr. Grant Woods joined the Hunt Life Outdoors Show, and during his time with us, he shared a whole-hearted recommendation for Eagle Foods soybeans.  Well, both Kevin and Jeff took him at his word, and they've tried out Eagle seeds for themselves.  How are things going so far?  Are these as close to the 'magic beans' as they could find?  You may be surprised at what they've found so far...

Actually, you'll be surprised to find out all kinds of things every week on the Hunt Life Outdoors Show.  Don't miss it!

May 29 - Hunt Life Outdoors Show Notes:
The Hunt Life Outdoors Show was back to full strength this week, with Jeff, Kevin, and Kirk all in the studio.  Since Kevin was out last week, he got to share some stories about where he was and what he was doing - and what stories they were!

Last week, Kevin spent four days in Mississippi with the Mossy Oak's 'big guns', including Ronnie 'Cuz' Strickland, Toxey Haas, and Mossy Oak President, Mr. Bill Sugg!  Sounded like a great time, filled with lots of great information, fun...and snoring!

The talk then shifted to Mossy Oak, and the great Mossy Oak patterns the boys have used over the years.  On his trip, Kevin got a great look at Mossy Oak's latest pattern, "Breakup Infinity" - and everybody, including Kevin, LOVED it.  Everybody seemed to agree that they love the television programming that Mossy Oak's been a part of over the years, too, which led to a big discussion to the Pursuit Channel and it's availability.

The hour finished up with Jeff sharing some stories about his time at his food plots.  You need some juicy tidbits on getting some deer to your plots?  Jeff let us all in on what deer consider "ice cream", and what great feed is downright "yucky".

It was another great edition of the Hunt Life Outdoors Show...be sure to check out the podcast if you missed it!

May 22 - Hunt Life Outdoors Show Notes:
Some great news for the Hunt Life Outdoors Show: we'd like to welcome our new sponsor, Mossy Oak!  They are the biggest name in hunting patterns, and you can see their designs on every type of clothing and gear imaginable.  And now, their pattern is all over the Hunt Life Outdoors Show!

For this week's show, Kevin was on the road in Mississippi, but Jeff and Kirk managed to get through just fine...with the help of TV celebrity hunter and Mossy Oak pro staffer Ronnie "Cuz" Strickland.  During the hour, Ronnie shared his perspective on everything from the hunt itself to the way so many people experience it...on TV!

Cuz said he's a hunter before anything else, and he shared some interesting things with us.  He told us what game really 'trips his trigger' and why he felt like he's been stuck in January for three months.  He gave us his perspective on the differences between hunting in the southeast and hunting in the northeast, and passed along the grim details of a recent life-altering run-in with a scary, scaly creature.

Now, you can't talk to Cuz without talking about hunting shows on TV.  He gave us his perspective on the good and bad aspects of hunting shows he sees, and he let us all in on some secrets behind "Turkey Thugs", "Obsession Revealed", and "Fistful of Dirt".  He also gave us some info on new shows coming to the Pursuit Channel - and pushed us to start a petition to get the channel into local cable outlets all over the southeast.

It was a fast hour with a great guest - seems like a typical week for the Hunt Life Outdoors Show!

May 15 - Hunt Life Outdoors Show Notes:
Hey, hey, the gang was all here!  Jeff made it back to the Hunt Life Outdoors Show studios, and boy, did he have stories to tell.  Last week, Jeff was out in Nebraska, taking part in an amazing turkey hunt.  Fields of alfalfa, 150+ roosts, and turkeys living wind-in-hoof with cows...Jeff said it was crazy.  He shared some great stories from his adventure, and brought it home with the wonderful fact that all five of the people in his party tagged out..in FIVE days.  That's some turkey huntin', folks.

The conversation moved on to a question originally posed by a listener last week: what would rather do...hunt turkeys with a rifle or hunt deer with a bow?  Check out the guys' answers to this one...

They then turned their attention to the amazing differences in hunters' perspective.  In the midwest, turkey hunting is more of a necessity than a privilege, and all midwest hunters talk about is the great fishing we have down here in the southeast.  And of course, with Kevin and Kirk being charter captains, the talk culminated with a trade offer: if you've got hunting property in the midwest, the boys would be happy to swap some hunting for some fishing!

Listener John checked in with a great story about a midwest buck that snuck up on a dozing friend of his...which kicked all the guys into high gear, sharing their stories about drifting off in the woods, and missing opportunities of a lifetime!

It was another great edition of the Hunt Life Outdoors Show that officially put the wraps on turkey season, full of great stories that you've got to hear.

May 8 - Hunt Life Outdoors Show Notes:

As promised, Jeff flew the coop this week, so it was up to Kevin and Kirk to put the wraps on a great spring turkey season.  The guys shared their own experiences, from successes and failures with calls to stalking and folding "Voodoo", the strangest turkey Kevin's ever seen.

Listeners got in on the act and shared their season highlights, too.

All of us at the Hunt Life Outdoors Show hope you had a great turkey season, and we look forward to talking with you about all kinds of things leading up to deer season 2010!
May 1- "Hunt Life Outdoors Show" Notes:
Kevin was on the run this week, but Jeff and Kirk were in-studio for the Hunt Life Outdoors Show and loving it.  Coming off a great turkey season for both of them, they sat down with Dr. James Earl Kennamer, the NWTF's Cheif Conservation Officer.
Dr. Kennamer gave us his history, which began with following his father's footsteps into conservation, tracked through his time at Mississippi State, his ten years of teaching at Auburn, and continued with his thirty years at NWTF.  He went on to share his proudest moment over those three decades, and commented on the present and the future of the Federation in the wake of the new president and refined direction.

Then it was time to turn his Ph.D. to turkeys, and Dr. Kennamer went in-depth on his somewhat surprising position on fall turkey hunting, his incredibly surprising findings on predator control and their real effect on the turkey population, and why habitat maintenance is so important.  He also put on his psychology hat, and gave a little insight into why turkeys act so crazy - turns out they're the moodiest animal on the planet...besides us, of course.

It truly was a can't-miss Hunt Life Outdoors Show...but if you did, make sure you catch the podcast right here.
April 24 - Hunt Life Outdoors Show Notes:

If you were in the mood for a little outdoor education, this episode of the Hunt Life Outdoors Show was for you.  Dave Edwards, manager and biologist for Westervelt Wildlife Services, joined the guys to shed a lot of light on hunting property.

Even though the housing boom is long since gone, the art of flipping is alive and kicking when it comes to hunting properties.  Dave supplied plenty of insight into the process of purchasing, fixing, and flipping old properties.  He also talked about hunting smarter...find out his thoughts on stand usage and where to drive your ATV (it's not where you think!).

Turns out that Dave and Jeff had spent a little time together, and they shared some stories about their trip to South Carolina.  Jeff also talked about something he'd never heard from a turkey before - check out the show to see if it's a call you've heard...

Next week is a big show for the guys, and it's one you won't want to miss: we'll be joined by Dr. James Earl Kennamer, Chief Conservation Officer of the National Wildlife Turkey Federation.  It's gonna be turkey talk for the ages...next week on the Hunt Life Outdoors Show!
April 17 - "Hunt Life Outdoors Show" Notes:
Kevin was out of town this week, and boy, did he miss out!  Did you?  The "First Lady of Hunting", Brenda Valentine, joined Jeff and Kirk for another great edition of the Hunt Life Outdoors Show.

As a spokesperson for the NWTF, Brenda knows turkeys, and right off the bat, she told the guys that this is THE week for turkey hunting.  She explained why, and then backed it up with an eyewitness account of four turkeys that had wandered onto her front yard during the interview!

Brenda went on to give us a rundown of her history, and how came to be recognized as the "First Lady of Hunting".  She also talked about her fifteen-year history in front of the camera as the host of numerous shows including "100% Real Huntin'", and her new show, "Turkey Call TV" on the Pursuit Channel.

As it turns out, it's not all about the thrill of the hunt and the camera for Brenda - she's a champion of hunting traditions and various outdoor causes, and she's a major participant in several pro-hunting programs like Women in the Outdoors, Wheelin' Sportsmen, and Jakes.

And if that wasn't enough, Brenda also shared a great story about a battle-scarred buck that provided her with one of her most memorable hunting moments...and which famous outdoorsman possesses "Waffle House Radar"!

It was another fabulous edition of the Hunt Life Outdoors Show with a fabulous lady, Brenda Valentine...truly, the "First Lady of Hunting"!

April 10 -"Hunt Life Outdoors Show" Notes:

The guys were on location this week, broadcasting from the Jacksonville FL Redfish Roundup, and they were itchin' to get castin'!  But before they could drop a line, it was all hunting with their special guest, Matt Williams from the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation!

Matt shared some great information about the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, as well as some great hunting stories from his home state of Montana.  Jeff and Kevin shared some stories of their own, but you sure could hear a little bit of envy in their voices...

Next week, don't miss the "First Lady of Hunting", Brenda Valentine!  And on May 1st, we'll be treated with the chief conservation officer of the NWTF, Dr. James Earl Kennamer.

April 3 - " Hunt Life Outdoors Show" Notes:

Jeff and Kevin had a chance to enjoy spring with their kids this past week, and it made for some interesting stories and wonderful times...what "The Hunt Life" is all about.  This week also made for incredible 'combo' days...turkey hunting in the morning, and great fishing in the afternoon.

Kevin's family got to participate in a fabulous turkey hunting contest called the "Florida/Georgia Shootout", while Jeff took off to Georgia with his son.  Kevin and Jeff told the story of the "fishing competition" they had with their boys, and Kevin shared a great story about a special hunt he had with his daughter - it was Turkey Madness!!!

As turkey season continues, get ready to call in and share your story!  877-WE-HUNT-2 (877-934-8682).

Get ready for April 17th, when we welcome "The First Lady of Hunting" Brenda Valentine to the Hunt Life Outdoors Show!

March 20 - "Hunt Life Outdoors Show" Notes:

The gang was all here...well, sort of.  Kevin and Kirk were in studio, but Jeff checked in on the phone.  He was spending the weekend in Iowa, where he was participating in "Aiming for a Cure" - a benefit hunt with proceeds benefitting pediatric cancer patients and their families.

Jeff was getting ready to hunt pheasant with some big time celebrities and hunters, including Mark Kayser, who was gracious enough to join us on the show.  Mark hosts "North American Hunter" on Versus, and beginning this fall, you'll see him on Pursuit Channel's "Xtreme Hunts".  During the hour, he not only talked about his new show, but shared two frightening stories about his most memorable extreme adventures; judge for yourself whether the bears or the people are more dangerous!  Mark also pulled back the curtain just a little bit, too, sharing the not-so-glamorous side of producing hunting shows.  He also shared his perspective on turkey, whitetail, and 'comfort zone' hunting...in case you missed it, take a listen here and check out everything Mark had to say.

Next week, everybody should be back in studio to talk turkey and have a ball on the Hunt Life Outdoors Show...don't miss it!

March 13 - "Hunt Life Outdoors Show" Notes:

Our special guest was North Florida turkey hunting legend Fred Stokes. Fred is a master turkey call maker, caller and story teller. Fred entertained our listening audience with his fabulous stories from the turkey woods. This show is now podcast on the radio page.

March 6 - "Hunt Life Outdoors Show" Notes:

The 2010 DD Adams Award Winner at the NWTF Grand National Call Competition in Nashville, David Halloran, was our guest today  The DD Adams Award is given annually to the best pot call entered into the competition.  He won the award for his new "Crystal Mistress" glass call.  David's renowned slate call also took home another first place ribbon being named the best slate call of the show.  David has been making turkey calls since the age of 12 and is not only an outstanding call maker but an outstanding caller.  His appearance should help make everyone a better caller for this years turkey season.  Jeff and Kevin have been using David's calls for the last few years and wouldn't trade them for any other.

If you're hungry for turkey season, you would have 'gobbled' up this episode of the Hunt Life Outdoors Show.  The guys were joined by award-winning call maker David Halloran, who amazed everyone with his knowledge, experience, insight, and calling ability.

David spent the hour answering questions about his call-making experience, his award-winning "Crystal Mistress" call, and he shared all kinds of tips and techniques on call types, strikers, grip, striking motions, sweet spots, and more.  He even put his calling where his talking was...with amazing demonstrations of cluck and purrs, assorted yelps, the keekee, and more!

And in a surprising twist, HLOS listener & Hunt Lifer Bob called in from South Florida...while standing over a dead turkey that he called in with a Halloran call!

If turkey hunting is your thing, you may want to listen to this show TWICE.  And if you haven't been bitten by the turkey-hunting bug, after you listen to this show, you'll be ready to go after a beard.

February 27 - "Hunt Life Outdoors Show" Notes:

This week's show was chaos in action!  Jeff was out of the office, doing some tournament fishing, while Kevin and Kirk spent the entire week getting antsy for turkey season!

Kevin was busy practicing calls, prepping land, and checking cameras...only to find out he's got a zoo running around out there!  Bobcats, coyotes, raccoons, hogs, and more.

Kirk was thinkin' guns - and gettin' sucked into buying some new ammo!

Both guys said they spent a lot of time looking back at last year, and shared some of their best father/child turkey hunting adventures.  You don't want to miss Kirk's HILARIOUS story - how do you put together a turkey, a coyote, and a cardinal?

Our listeners checked in, too - Capt. Rich called in to defend himself...and his turkey hunting slump.  Ken braved 23 degree weather to check from an Alabama state park with a Birmingham turkey report - he's doing some early scouting, shooting some video.  John checked in with a case of turkey fever...and he's never even hunted them before!

Hunt Life President Major Harding stopped by to give us an update on http://www.huntlife.com , and to give away a Hunt Life Prize Pack!  Chris was our lucky winner - and he walked away with a Hunt Life shirt, hat, and bumper sticker.

February 20 - "Hunt Life Outdoors Show" Notes:

This week, Jeff, Kevin, and Kirk were pretty giddy...weather-wise, it was shaping up to be a PERFECT Hunt Life Weekend!  Lots of land management and family time planned...with a little bit of spying on the local populations thrown in there, too.

The boys had the distinct pleasure of being joined by legendary outdoors writer Bob McNally, who has penned thousands of articles for every leading outdoor publication and has authored twelve books, including his latest, Fail-proof Tactics for Whitetail Bowhunting - a collection of stories, tips, and techniques from top-level hunters including Fred Bear, Ted Nugent, "Cuz" Strickland, and more.

Bob, who's been bowhunting whitetail and turkey since 1964, also shared his personal experiences (like getting his first bow from Fred Bear), his career highlights (from his surprising choice for favorite hunting moment), his thoughts on the most aggravating aspect of hunting (you may be surprised), his perspective on the relationship between Washington and American outdoorsmen, and his advice for anyone interested in becoming an outdoor writer.

Throughout the show, Bob shared some great hunting stories you can't miss...but if you want to check out even more, head to his website, ezoutdoorsonline.com , and take your pick of more than 2000 articles.

February 13 - "Hunt Life Outdoors Show" Notes:

February 6 - "Hunt Life Outdoors Show" Notes:

Leupold's Tim Lesser joined the gang for this week's show...boy, is he one smart guy!

As you already know, Leupold is THE name in hunting optics, and Tim shared his knowledge and expertise to prove the point.  He gave us a primer on optics, addressed the parallax issue (why does my crosshair move when I move my head?), and gave us the lowdown on scope accessories, which scope is best for what application, and all kinds of rangefinder info...including a new Leupold model that hooks up to your bow AND operates at full draw!

But most importantly, Tim shed light on THE most important question in optics: how do you pronounce Leupold?  If you want to know the answer, don't miss the podcast.

Next week, Dr. Grant Woods, one of the outdoor industry's most respected biologists, will join Jeff, Kevin, and Kirk.  Don't miss it!

January 30 - "Hunt Life Outdoors Show" Notes:

This week, the guys took some time to look back on what was a pretty darn good deer season, highlighted by a tremendous Alabama rut.  Naturally, the Great Rut Debate ensued; which is better...the November rut or the January rut?  For Jeff, Kevin, and Kirk, there's no question about it - January wins, hands down.

Mark, one of our listeners, checked in with the bone-chilling details of a recent muzzle loader hunt in Ohio.  Then, as most Hunt Life Outdoors Show conversations go, things worked their way around to discussing a fantasy hunting road trip...hunting turkeys, scouting deer, following trials, and dropping a fake tree in the middle of a Kansas field to see how quickly the deer use it as a travel landmark!

Listener Scott checked in with an Eufaula, AL hunt update; not only did Scott see some big-time harvests of some big-time bucks, but he also saw his son win a new Ruger 10/22!

Rex checked in from Union Springs, AL (listening to WMRK in Montogmery) to give us a rain-filled, up-to-the minute Alabama hunting update for their final weekend.

Finally, Hunt Life's own Major Harding checked in from somewhere deep in AL via text...and told the guys he was underwater!  Nothing like flooding out a good rut...

Before the boys got to business, kudos to everyone who had to dig out their radios to listen to the show!

The latest edition of the Hunt Life Outdoors Show was a "can't miss" show if there ever was one, as Jeff, Kevin, and Kirk were joined by Dr. Grant Woods, founder of Mossy Oak Biologic, Woods & Associates, and growingdeer.tv.  Dr. Grant shared his personal experience of growing big deer on his Missouri property, as well as A BUNCH of great info on:

- The evolution of deer management in the last two decades, and what has become the 'year-round hunt'
- Trail cam positioning...he laid out a strategy to chart EXACTLY where your deer are headed, and how you can use that information to set up in EXACTLY the right place
- The upcoming deer season, which, according to Grant, is shaping up to be the biggest record-breaking season ever...and you won't believe the reason why!
- Recommendations for food plots in FL, GA, and AL - type, amount, depth, soil temps, and precise time for planting.

Outdoors writing legend Bob McNally joins us next week with great stories that perfectly describe the Hunt Life...don't miss it!
